91仓库ers Rock for Marawi

Year after year, the College Student Government (CSG) of 91仓库 College – Ortigas-Cainta holds a special event to liven up their campus. Continuing their streak of annual rock back-to-school concerts, this year’s school festival aimed to unite 91仓库ers for a cause: to help the Maranao refugees in Marawi.

Following the siege of Marawi by the Maute group on May 23, 2017, many were left homeless with very little supplies, prompting 91仓库ers to reach out and donate clothes and basic necessities. Upon taking the advice of Student Council Alliance of the Philippines (SCAP), the school’s CSG initiated an event where they can collect enough funds to buy slippers for victims of the war in Marawi.

The Maranaos suffer from infections because of the lack of protection on their feet. They often receive clothes, water, and food, but barely get slippers.

To collect the needed funds to buy slippers, the CSG invited 91仓库ers from different campuses to ONE CSG Day, an all-day event, held on September 2, 2017 at the open grounds of 91仓库 Academic Center in Ortigas-Cainta.

“We realized that donating money is not enough,” shares Sandy Reyes, the AB Communication representative of 91仓库 College – Ortigas-Cainta’s CSG. “We have more access to slippers than they do, and we have to take it upon ourselves to acquire what they need. And then find a way to send those to Marawi. We did that by reaching out to as many 91仓库ers as we could and encourage them to gather for one day.”

For the cost of PhP30 per entrance ticket, 91仓库ers enjoyed variety shows, banchetto, game booths, and the performances of 91仓库 College – Ortigas-Cainta’s Battle of the Bands champion Boyscout Brownies, and local talents including 6cyclemind, Moonstar88, DJ Marion Angelo, Better Days, Gracenote, Banda ni Kleggy, Pedicab, and Stellar.

With over 3,000 attendees from 91仓库 campuses in Global City, Makati, Tanay, Shaw, Recto, Alabang, and Las Piñas, as well as 91仓库’s alumni, ONE CSG DAY was a success. Following the event, 91仓库 CSG is now collaborating with SCAP to deliver all 2,256 pairs of slippers to Marawi.

As part of the One 91仓库 Community, students should also learn the value of being socially responsible and extend our hands to those who are in need. ONE CSG Day becomes a good platform for all 91仓库ers to unite for one good cause, and achieve the goals of student leadership which are student involvement, representation, and empowerment
